The Mandalorian Chapter 16

Can you believe we’re already at the season finale?! It doesn’t feel like all that long ago that season 2 started yet here we are. So first of all let me get this out of the way, I loved it I loved it oh my god I loved it. Okay now that I got that out let’s talk about it.

Two Mandalorians walk into a bar.

After capturing Dr. Pershing, Din and Boba show up at a cantina where they find Bo-Katan and Koska. I was thrilled that we got another episode with Bo-Katan but I honestly wasn’t a fan of the way she treated Boba. The fight between Koska and Boba was entertaining for sure and thankfully once Bo learned Din could bring her to Moff Gideon they set their issues aside and were off to save Grogu.

Din vs the Dark Trooper.

Anyone else get a little anxious during this fight scene? Ultimately I knew Din would win but watching him get tossed around like a ragdoll stressed me out. I kept yelling at him to use the spear I was glad he finally listened 😉

Din vs Moff Gideon.

I don’t know about you guys but I was ready to jump through the tv myself when I saw Moff Gideon holding the darksaber over Grogu’s head like that. I was a little surprised that Din seemed so trusting when he told him he could grab the kid and go. The fight we had been waiting for finally happened and I loved it. Watching Din use the spear, the moves he did all of it was badass.

He who wields the darksaber holds the power, whether he wants it or not.

Once Din defeated Moff Gideon and took the darksaber I was thrilled but that quickly faded when they got to the bridge and Gideon pointed out that Bo-Katan would have to fight Din for it. I was expecting this because if you have seen Rebels then know that Sabine handed over the darksaber to Bo-Katan without issue. I’m not sure the difference between then and now but maybe we’ll find out? Since we didn’t see what happened after they were interrupted by that guy in the X-wing it leaves me wondering if she decided to take it, if they’ll have to fight, or if Din will try and claim Mandalore. So many questions.

Like father like son

The Jedi.

The moment I saw that X-wing I knew it was Luke and I completely lost it with each confirmation up until we saw his face. The green lightsaber, the glove, all of it. That whole scene gave off Anakin gives and I was here for it. The moment we see him in the smoke (pictured above) I squealed because it was just like Vader’s moment in Rogue One. R2D2 showing up was also a welcome surprise, who doesn’t love that sassy little astromech?

”Just for once, let me look on you with my own eyes.”

Din removing his helmet.

I have been hoping that Din would let Grogu see his face at some point but I still was not prepared emotionally for this moment. The moment was so bittersweet and absolutely heartbreaking. The pain on Din’s face came right through my tv screen and straight into my heart. The moment was also reminiscent of the moment between Anakin and Luke in Return of the Jedi.

Goodbye.

How dare Disney hurt me so much with this scene. Pedro did such an among job making us feel what he was feeling. Din watching Grogu leave was probably the saddest moment on the entire show. I hope their paths cross again. It’s going to be interesting to see what life will be like for him now that Grogu is gone.

The Book of Boba Fett.

This scene had me screaming, Fennec taking everyone except Bib Fortuna out, and then Boba walking in like the badass he is and finishing the job *chefs kiss* this is the Boba we asked for. Seeing him sit on that throne gave me chills. Seeing ”The Book of Boba Fett” on the screen was so exciting but also left me with a lot of questions. Will this be its own series? Is it going to be what season 3 is about? A movie? I’m hoping Disney doesn’t leave us hanging too long, either way, next December is something I’m looking forward to in a major way.

The after.

Anyone else just sit there staring at this guy for an unknown amount of time while trying to process what you had just seen? I’m not sure how much time passed but it was a lot.

Season 2 was everything I hoped it would be and so much more. I’m not sure how I’m going to get through the next year without The Mandalorian but I know it will be well worth the wait. What are your thoughts on the finale? Were you happy to see Luke or were you hoping it was someone else? Are you going to miss Grogu? Let me know your feelings on it all.
