Star Wars for years to come

This week really ended with a bang, Disney’s Investor Day gave the Star Wars community a reason to rejoice. For some, it may feel like an overload, for others, myself included I could not be more excited for what’s to come. So let’s talk about what we have to look forward to.

The Mandalorian season 3.

The premiere of season 3 finally has a release date, December, 25th 2021. A welcome Christmas present for those of us who celebrate and a great way to end the year for everyone regardless of what holidays you celebrate. Now I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t sad that we have to wait so long, I mean A WHOLE YEAR?! It’s going to feel like an eternity for sure but I bet it’s going to be well worth the wait.

After her appearance in The Mandalorian, a lot of us were hoping she would end up with her own show and it looks as though our wish has been granted. Ashoka will take place during The Mandalorian timeline and will be executive produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni so you know it’s going to be amazing. The show will crossover with future episodes of The Mandalorian and culminate in a climactic story event. We don’t know much else about the show except for Rosario Dawson will be back to play the role of Ahsoka. Filoni will be writing the series which Disney has said will be a limited series.

Rangers of the New Republic.

Rangers of the New Republic is a second series spinoff to The Mandalorian and will also crossover with future episodes. Like the Ahsoka series, not much else is known about the show apart from it will also be executive produced by Favreau and Filoni. That alone tells me it’s going to be another awesome show.

Loving the logo transition!

The Bad Batch.

If you’re a fan of The Clone Wars series chances are you’re going to love this. If you’re not sure who they are, The Bad Batch was introduced in the last season of The Clone Wars. They were a batch of clones that had alterations that made them deadly and efficient on the battlefield. While it has yet to be confirmed, the series is most likely picking up around the time of Order 66 since we didn’t get to see what happened to them in The Clone Wars. If you haven’t yet you can check out the trailer here.

Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which will take place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, probably isn’t a surprise to most, we’ve known for a while that it was in the making. However, during Disney Investors Day it was announced that Hayden Christensen would be coming back to reprise his role as Darth Vader. Now I’m not even kidding when I tell you that I cried a little when they announced his return. I am SO EXCITED about this! I don’t think I’ve shared this before but although I did see the original trilogy when I was really young, Anakin is who made me fall in love with Star Wars so this news is like a dream for me. They haven’t given away to how exactly he’ll fit into the series but Kathleen Kennedy made a point to say “this will be the rematch of the century.” THE REMATCH OF THE CENTURY!

Star Wars: The Acolyte.

We finally have a title for Leslye Headland’s long-rumored Star Wars series. Revealed during Disney’s Investors Day presentation, The Acolyte is “a mystery-thriller that will take the audience into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” While this doesn’t give too much away, a series surrounding the dark side of The Force is a welcome change from what we are used to.

Star Wars: Visions.

If you’re a fan of both Star Wars and anime then this just might be your dream come true. Visions is going to be a series of animated short films that celebrate the Star Wars galaxy through the eyes of anime creators. According to Kennedy, there will be 10 “fantastic visions” in all.

Star Wars: Andor.

Andor stars Rogue One’s Diego Luna and will be coming to Disney+ in 2022. The first season will have 12 episodes which is exciting. The trailer released doesn’t give anything away as far as the plot goes but we know production has just begun in London. I enjoyed Cassian in Rogue One so this is another one I’m really looking forward to. I’m also hoping K2SO will be a part of the series.

Star Wars: Lando.

Another series that was announced is Lando. Not much information has been given, Justin Simien— writer, producer, and director of Dear White People— is creating the series. The project is still in early development, currently, there is no word as to who will be playing Lando. My hope is Donald Glover or Billy Dee Williams depending on where in the timeline the series will take place.

Star Wars: A Droid Story.

This animated series will feature R2D2 and C-3PO and is being produced by Lucasfilm Animation and ILM. ”As Lucasfilm continues to develop new stories, the intersection of animation and visual effects offers new opportunities for us to explore. This epic journey will introduce us to a new hero, guided by our iconic duo on a secret mission known only to them. What could possibly go wrong?” Kennedy said during the announcement? I’ve always enjoyed the interaction between these guys so this should be a fun series.

Rogue Squadron.

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins is directing the next Star Wars movie. The film is set to be released in December 2023. Rogue Squadron will follow a group of fighter pilots as they band together through thick and thin to defend good against evil. This film will also mark the first time a woman has directed a Star Wars film which in itself is pretty cool.

Taika Waititi unknown film.

While we don’t know much about this upcoming film, okay we don’t know anything at all about it but Kathleen Kennedy offered a short update on Taika Waititi’s new Star Wars movie, saying the Academy Award-winner writer is currently penning the script for the upcoming feature. She made sure to reassure audiences they are in for the wild ride and iconic sense of humor that is to be expected from the acclaimed filmmaker. Not knowing anything other than Taika is writing the script, I can tell you whatever this movie is it will be awesome!

Well, there you have it. So much upcoming Star Wars content to look forward to. I know some have their reservations on the amount of content being put out over the next few years but I for one have faith that it’s all going to be amazing. You can never have too much Star Wars in my opinion and I am here for all of it. What are you looking forward to the most? Leave a comment and let me know.
